3 or 4 p.m. is an inconvenient time. I can't make plans for either the afternoon or the evening.
この表現での「中途半端」を直訳的にhalfwayやhalf doneにすると違和感がありますね。
こういう場合に英語でよくinconvenient (不便な)、awkward (微妙な）のような表現にします。
例えば、
3 or 4 p.m. is an inconvenient time.
午後3時とか4時は中途半端な時間
If my appointment at the hospital is in the morning, I'll be free by the afternoon. If it's late in the evening, I'm free during the day, but 3 or 4 p.m. is an inconvenient time.
病院で午前中の予約なら午後(から）空くし、夕方遅い時間だと、午前から日中が空くけれど、午後3時とか4時は中途半端な時間です
an awkward timeも問題ないですね。
I can't make plans for either the afternoon or the evening.
昼も夕方も他の予定立てない

この英文で「doesn't work for me」という表現を使えます。これは「（私にとって）中途半端な時間」を表します。
