「衝突した」はcollidedと言います。上記の日本語をそのまま訳すとThe car and pedestrian collided.と言えます。でも、実際に使っている英語はThe car collided with the pedestrian.です。この言い方ではただ衝突したことじゃなくて車のせいで衝突したというニュアンスになります。歩行者のせいで衝突した時も車じゃなくて歩行者が被害になるので、この言い方が自然です。The car and pedestrian collidedでは車と歩行者が同じぐらいにダメージされたことを伝わります。
