out of the people who went the year before I did
私の一年前に行った人たちの中には、
out of the people who went a year earlier than I didもOKです。
one was mugged and had his/her iPhone stolen
街中で脅されてiphoneを盗まれた人がいました
脅されてiphoneを盗まれる、を直訳するとattacked and had his/her iphone stolenになり、問題なく通じますが、英語で大体muggedで表現します。
また、盗まれた人の性別によってhis/herを使いますね。

この場合、次のような言い方ができますよ。
ーpeople who went there a year before me
「わたしの1年前にそこに行ったひとたち」
例：
I never had any trouble while I was training in XX, but some of the people who went there a year before me were threatened and had their iPhones stolen.
「XXの研修中、私はなにもトラブルがなかったけど、わたしの1年前にそこに行った人たちの中には脅されてiPhoneを盗られた人もいた」
to be threatened「脅される」
to have one's iPhone stolen「iPhoneを盗まれる」
